Pas de Deux

Summer 1946: the men and women who served the United States have at long last returned home. For classical violist Charlotte "Charlie" Miller, it means her temporary role as a substitute with the Pittsburgh Orchestra is over… but she'll have her first opportunity to audition for a tenured seat alongside her twin brother, Theo. She's dreamed of this moment since her student days.

When that dream falls apart in a matter of minutes, Charlie makes a snap decision: she'll masquerade as Theo, win the audition, and humiliate the misogynistic musician who ruined her shot. It's simple, it's effective, and her hair is already all over the bathroom floor. What could go wrong?

Maybe everything, courtesy of a familiar bassist who's just moved in downstairs. Frederik Cartwright, former medic and friend from conservatory, has returned to Pittsburgh and desperately craves normalcy. What he gets instead? A principal position, a misfit group of musician ducklings, and the love of his life pretending to be a man while (almost definitely) dating the danseur upstairs. Sworn to secrecy, what else can Frederik do except go along? After all, given the opportunity to perform some of the greatest works ever written… what's a little craziness backstage?
